Job Title: Wood Lathe Operator- Job Summary: The Wood Lathe Operator is responsible for setting up and operating wood lathe machines to turn, cut, and shape wood pieces with precision. This role involves interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, ensuring high-quality standards, and maintaining equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Set up and operate wood lathe machines.
- Adjust machine settings such as speed, feed rates, and tool positioning to achieve desired results.
Monitor machine operations to detect and correct any issues or irregularities
- Production and Quality Control:
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machine settings and cutting paths.- Measure and inspect workpieces using calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools to ensure they meet specifications.
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the lathe machine to ensure proper operation and extend its lifespan.
Follow safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations related to machine operation and safety.
Load and unload materials onto the lathe machine.- Handle and store materials properly to prevent damage and ensure efficient workflow.
- Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
Identify and resolve machine malfunctions and production issues.- Perform basic repairs and adjustments as needed.
- Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of production processes, machine settings, and any maintenance or repairs performed.- Report any discrepancies or quality issues to the supervisor.
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in machining or a related field is preferred.- Previous experience operating wood lathes or similar machinery is advantageous.
Strong understanding of wood materials and machining techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
Proficiency in using precision measurement tools.- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
- Willing to relocate or ammenable to commute
Can perform other tasks as assigned
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs).- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate machinery and tools effectively.
Work is typically performed in a manufacturing or workshop setting.- Exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
