Job Description

A supply planner plays a crucial role in ensuring that products are available to meet customer demand while also minimizing costs and optimizing inventory levels. The job description of a supply planner typically includes:
  • Demand Forecasting: Collaborating with sales, marketing, and other relevant departments to forecast future demand for products accurately. This involves analyzing historical sales data, market trends, and other factors that may influence demand.
Inventory Management: Developing and implementing inventory strategies to ensure that sufficient stock is available to meet demand while avoiding overstock situations that tie up capital or lead to waste.
  • Production Planning: Working closely with production teams to schedule manufacturing activities in alignment with demand forecasts and inventory targets. This may involve creating production schedules, determining order quantities, and coordinating with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of raw materials.
Supplier Coordination: Liaising with suppliers to monitor inventory levels, track shipments, and address any issues or delays that may impact the supply chain. This includes negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships, and identifying opportunities for cost savings or process improvements.
  • Risk Management: Identifying potential risks to the supply chain, such as supplier disruptions, transportation delays, or changes in market conditions, and developing contingency plans to mitigate these risks.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilizing software tools and analytical techniques to analyze supply chain data, identify trends, and generate reports that inform decision-making. This may involve evaluating key performance indicators (KPIs) such as inventory turnover, fill rates, and forecast accuracy.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively seeking opportunities to improve supply chain efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer service levels through process optimization, technology adoption, and best practices implementation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborating with various departments within the organization, including sales, marketing, operations, and finance, to ensure alignment of supply chain activities with overall business objectives.
