Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Sleep Supervisor and the attending physician, the Sleep Technologist performs overnight, daytime, and home sleep studies, polysomnograms on people with suspected sleep disorders.
Collect, analyze and integrate patient information.
- Determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
Perform operational checks prior to initiating the study and ensure the accuracy and safety of instruments in use during patient recording.- Monitor patients during treatment and report any unusual reactions.
Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
- Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.
Perform appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and make required adjustments.- Document routine observations including sleep stages, clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
Complies with and properly applies, established procedures and precautions relating to safety to self, patient and others.
- Perform patient education and instruction appropriate for home sleep apnea testing.
Recognize and respond to cardiac emergencies during sleep studies.- Operates and maintains equipment in accordance with specifications so that no damage or undue wear and tear occurs due to failure to comply.
Attends education in-service programs to maintain professional competency.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to apply the use of techniques, equipment's and procedures involved in the evaluation of polysomnography for the treatment sleep disorder.
Ability to troubleshoot respiratory devices and physiologic monitoring equipment.- Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situation.
Ability to work independently, be keen to detail and maintain a positive attitude.
- Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial and legal information.- Ability to effectively educate others.
Knowledge of current disease management guidelines.
- Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with a variety of professionals.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.- Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's/College Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent- with or without experience.
Recent respiratory therapist (RTRP) or sleep technologist (RPSGT) experience is an advantage.
- Amenable to work in Quezon City
