Strengthening the reporting control frameworks
This is the job every professional controls expert dreams about. This is where it all happens at one of the largest financial institutions in the world. In this dynamic environment, you are co-responsible that ING stays in control over its financial, regulatory and ESG reporting processes. With a team of 10 experts, you form part of the group that develops, monitors and maintains an effective framework for identifying and reducing reporting risks as well as increasing control awareness.
The team
Reporting Control Management is the corporate staff department within Group Finance, responsible for the Internal Control over Financial Reporting. The team is the linking pin between Group Finance and the other corporate departments, local ING entities and shared service centers and maintains the day-to-day relationship with the local finance control officers and taking the ownership for implementing the requirements leading to a sound internal control over global reporting processes. In this dynamic environment requirements in the financial, regulatory and ESG environment are continuously increasing. The team supports internal stakeholders by ensuring that the processes, controls and their testing is performed in line with the internal and external reporting requirements. Additional to that, the department is responsible for managing the contract with the external auditor. Internal stakeholders are non-financial risk departments, enterprise risk management business representatives, internal and external auditors. The RCM team has a dynamic culture, characterized by open, direct and informal communication, with a focus on team work.
Key Responsibilities
During 2024 and the beginning of 2025, an program has started to improve the local control frameworks used for the financial reporting related to SOx, the alignment with the frameworks used by the external auditor and to accelerate the remediation of current deficiencies across the SOx entities of ING.
In this role, you are responsible for setting up the monitoring process and for monitoring, maintaining and reporting with regard to the program on the improvement actions as set out above. Additional to the monitoring, maintenance and reporting, you are responsible for timely flagging issues, increasing control awareness on the importance of this program and providing support to local entities to achieve the goals. You manage change initiatives in an international context both independently and in small teams. Next to that, all kinds of related activities can be requested, all dependent on available time and competences needed. You will be integral part of the RCM team and will closely work together with all teammembers and the stakeholders in the entities.
Your tasks include the following:
Further setup and implement a dashboard that is currently in development phase for monitoring all improvement actions with regard to the SOx control frameworks;
Coordinate the monthly and quarterly data gathering and reporting process with regard to these improvement actions by encouraging and facilitating all local entities to submit their status, chase where needed and ensure data quality;
Ensure timely flagging of issues in the delivery process and/or in the content of the local status updates;
Ensure monthly and quarterly reporting to the Financial Management Team, the Management Board Bank / Executive Board and the Audit Committee;
Help local entities with their data gathering, while ensuring high level of data quality;
Actively contribute to the improvement actions on group and local level where needed;
Additional to that additional activities can be requested, all related to the area of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) / SOX404, such as:
Cooperating and participating in the whole ICFR/SOX404 sign-off process, which reaches from the governance, standard setting, communicating requirements and reporting;
Helping entities with implementation of the ICFR content binder;
Cooperating in deep dives on improvement activities;
Seeking opportunities for control optimization that is still SOX compliant and ways to reduce the finance control burden on the business;
Developing training materials and providing trainings and workshops to a wide community of global finance control officers, bringing bank-wide control knowledge up to a required level. This is mainly done via webcasts/calls.

To support above, you have:
An academic degree in Finance or Economics, preferably supplemented by an accounting and/or (internal) auditing or CIA certificate or in the final stage of studying for this;
5+ years of work experience in project management;
A generic understanding of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and the COSO 2013 internal controls framework;
Knowledge of IT, IT related controls (including IT general controls and application controls) is a pre;
Proven experience in complex business process improvements, including design, implementation and execution of (regulatory) oversight processes;
Generic knowledge of banking business processes and knowledge of the relevant (legal) regulations and procedures;
Superb business acumen and communication skills to help the business and its stakeholders understand, relate to and action key elements of his/her agenda;
Possess a highly ethical and professional executive demeanor, along with sound judgement and confidence to represent ING in both formal and informal settings;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a business partner and trusted advisor to the local management, as well as other internal clients;
Exceptional influencing skills, being assertive, convincing and persuasive without being antagonistic or alienating;
Fluent in English (both writing and speaking);
Bring global perspective and cultural sensitivity;
