RESPONSIBILITYPlant veterinarian ensures that all upcoming live birds from farms are healthy and fit for human consumption. He/she is constantly updated with global and local issues of emerging and existing diseases in poultry. He/she guarantees that dressing plant complies in all areas of Animal Health and Welfare (ie. handling, ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection of birds) as mandated by the government.
- Duties and Responsibilities: Please state in detail and state the frequency of the work being done(i.e., Daily (D), Weekly (W), Monthly (M), Annually (A)).
- Documentation/Records receiving and checking of the following: (D)
a. Flock health status
b. Shipping permit
c. Health certificate
d. Feed withdrawal slip
e. Ante-mortem inspection
- Monitors Live Bird Operations (resting, hanging, stunning, and killing) (D)
a. Proper live bird resting is observed.
b. Management of hauling trucks.
c. Fans and misting are in good working condition.
d. Monitors unloading from the truck to conveyor
e. Proper hanging procedure.
f. Proper retrieval of loose birds
g. Proper disposal DOA/DAA and other condemned waste.
h. Proper handling of live birds.
i. Proper killing/euthanasia.
j. Inspects Physical Protective Equipment (PPE) of crew.
- Confirms that plant biosecurity protocols should be strictly implemented. (D)
- Conducts necropsy on birds (D/As required)
- Submits reports on farm findings (M)
II. KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Education :
Graduate of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
- Passed the licensure exams for Veterinary Medicine.
- Knowledgeable on common foodborne diseases and zoonoses.
