Job SummaryThe Nursing Assistant supports registered nurses in the delivery of total nursing care by performing routine nursing and care-giving tasks in accordance with the standards of nursing procedures, medical directions, patient care standards, and hospital guiding principles.
Depending on assignment, Nursing Assistant may be assigned to ensure holistic nursing care to patients and render specific tasks and responsibilities of the assigned section:
- Operating Room
- Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures that all of the equipment needed for a certain procedure are properly disinfected and assembled.- Checks that the equipment are in good working condition and reports if any of them need repair.
Assists in preparing patients for surgery via cleaning, shaving, and disinfecting the areas of a patient's body that will be operated on.
- Transports and positions patients on the operating table.
Keeps track of items like sponges and needles, operates lights, and assists in dressing patients wounds during surgeries.- Assists in the preparation and disposal of laboratory specimens.
Helps the surgeon and first assistant with various technical tasks during surgeries, such as holding instruments under the direction of a surgeon, sponging or suctioning the site of an operation, cutting suture material, and applying wound dressings.
- Performs reprocessing of reusable items in the Operating Room.
Assists patients and/or relatives in settling hospital bills.
Graduate of an accredited professional College of Nursing or a Registered Midwife.
