The overarching objective of the Network Engineer IP is to ensure the smooth operation of the various IP networks of the organization, in order to provide maximum performance and availability to all customers. The Network Engineer - IP role is responsible for building, supporting, and maintaining all network devices and services within the organization's IP networks, with focus on the global IP Transit network.
Responsibilities
- Configure, stage and build network devices for installation into the company's POPs within agreed timelines.
- Migration of existing services onto newly installed infrastructure within agreed timelines.
- Conduct various network tasks outside of normal business hours to minimize any potential impacts to customers.
- Conduct regular network and capacity reviews to proactively identify any required maintenance or upgrades.
- Ensure all changes are implemented as per the current change process and Network Engineering MOP guidelines.
- Acknowledge and action support tickets escalated to Network Engineering in a timely manner.
- Provide engineering support to NOC, Presales and Provisioning teams within agreed internal response times.
- Ensure all required network documentation and inventory has been created and is kept up to date.
- Complete all allocated tasks and projects within agreed timelines, ensuring timely delivery of project milestones and goals.
- Participate in the Network Engineering 24x7 on-call roster system.
- Maintain and grow internal relationships with the Network Operations, Service Delivery, Network Provisioning, Presales, Products, Sales and Commercial teams.
- Maintain a reasonable level of responsiveness across all SLC communication mediums.
- Promote and participate in a learning environment to encourage up-skilling across the network engineering and support teams.
- Completion of company Cyber Security training.
- Completion of Work Health and Safety training
Qualifications
- Degree in Telecommunications or related discipline, or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 3 years experience in a network design/engineering, or Level 2 or above network support/escalation role.
- At least 3 years experience working in an ISP and carrier network (service provider) environment.
- Minimum 3 years experience operating Cisco and Juniper network.
- Excellent knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6 networks.
- Excellent understanding of MPLS/IP routing and forwarding.
- Good understanding of various Layer 2 technologies (Ethernet, VPWS, VPLS).
- Ability to work without supervision and in a team environment.
- Strong customer service ethic.
- Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Sound project management skills
Nice to have
- Experience in operating an Arista network
- Strong documentation skills.
- Knowledge of Python and/or Shell scripting.
- CCNP or equivalent experience will be highly regarded.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9AM to 6PM (with 24x7 on-call roster system)
