Medical Technologist

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs collection of laboratory specimens and preparation of reagents.

Operates all equipment used in all laboratory sections.

• Performs all tests method in different sections namely: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, Serology and Blood Banking, Microbiology, and Clinical Microscopy.

Practices efficient and economical use of laboratory supplies.

• Keeps working areas clean and orderly and workflow organizes and efficient.

Assists with the quality control and preventive maintenance performing special laboratory tests.

• Complies with the departments safety program.

Performs preventive measures in handling laboratory equipment and apparatus.

• Records patient's laboratory results in corresponding logbook.

Updates PhilHealth records and do the daily census report.

Clinical Chemistry

• Performs basic chemistry procedures such as blood sugar, Creatinine, Urea Nitrogen, Uric Acid, Cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL, LDL, Total Protein (Albumin and Globulin), Bilirubin (Total and Direct), SGOT, SGPT, ALP, Amylase, Lipase, CPK isoenzymes and other special tests.

Can operate automated machines such as BT-1500, CBS-40, Lifotronic H

  Hematology
  
• Performs routine hematologic procedures such as CBC, Coagulation studies like Bleeding time, clotting time, Prothrombin time, Activated Partial Thromboplastin time, platelet count, Clot Retraction time. Also performs ESR, identification of malarial parasites, Reticulocyte count.

Operates automated machines such as Celltac-Alpha, Celltac-Gamma, Wondfo Coagulation Analyzer and other hematological equipment.

Serology and Immunology

• Performs the following examination: Widal test, Anti-Streptolysin O titer, VDRL testing, Rheumatoid factor, CRP, HbsAg Screening, Alpha-Feto Protein, RPR, Typhidot, HIV Screening, Anti-HCV, Dengue Tests, Typhidot.

Operates automated machines such as Lifotronic, eCL8000 and FA-160.

Blood Banking

• Performs Blood Typing, Compatibility testing using Manual Crossmatching, Direct and Indirect Agglutination Test and Coomb's Test.

Clinical Microscopy

• Performs routine urinalysis which includes gross examination, PH, Specific gravity, protein, sugar, and microscopic examination of urinary sediments such as RBC, pus cells, crystals, casts and parasites that can be found in urine.

Performs special tests like bile pigments and bilirubin in urine, ketone and urobilinogen, pregnancy testing using Latex Agglutination Inhibition method (Pregnex or Gravindex), GDPT method for direct agglutination technique and monoclonal testing like Test Pack Plus and Card Test.

• Operates automated machine such as: Urine Sedimax Lite.

Parasitology

• Identifies different intestinal parasites like Ascaris, Trichiuris, Hookworm, Strongyloides stercoralis, Amoeba such as Entamoeba coli, Entamoeba histolytica, Trichomonas specie.

Performs special test for occult blood and bile in stool.

Microbiology

• Plates of specimen on different culture media, performs antibiotic sensitivity test on bacterial isolates, identifying different organism through plates, biochemical reaction and slide reading using different stain such as gram stain and acid-fast bacilli stain.

Prepares KOH for fungal elements.

• Prepares of different Medias and reagents.

Performs other tasks that maybe assigned by the superiors from time to time.

• QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology graduate.

Has licensed to practice Medical Technology issued by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) of the Philippines.

• Member of Philippine Association of Medical Technologists, Inc. (PAMET).

Skills

• Good orientation of both English and Filipino language to quickly assist in/out patients with their laboratory examinations.

Has highly developed and effective communications skills and has the ability to work in a people-oriented focused environment.

• Must be physically and mentally fit and possess pleasing personality with moral and ethical behavior.

Should have preference for scientific and technical activities to perform a great variety of laboratory test, to keep abreast of the latest innovations in method of testing.

• Keen judgment to evaluate information against measurable criteria out according to established laboratory procedures.
