Job Summary:- The Marine HR Officer ensures the seamless deployment of qualified seafarers for WMSI's vessels. It includes managing the selection and appointment process, overseeing all aspects of crew documentation to guarantee timely dispatch with complete and compliant records. By maintaining open communication with crew and principals, they foster positive relationships and ensure crew satisfaction.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
Verify and validate seafarer claims and appraisal reports.
- Ensure crew deployments adhere to STCW regulations and other maritime standards.
Conduct monthly unit meetings and document minutes following prescribed formats.- Maintain open communication with crew members to address grievances and prevent potential issues.
Conduct onboard visits (if necessary) to foster positive crew relations.
- Keep principals informed of crew status, performance, and availability.
Negotiate salaries and resolve crew-related matters with principals.- Participate in meetings with principals to discuss crew management strategies, as directed by the Career Development Manager.
Source, screen, and select qualified seafarers who meet WMSI's standards and exceed principal requirements (competence, certifications, medical fitness).
- Maintain a reserve pool of qualified officers and ratings for deployment.
Ensure timely processing of crew contracts, visas, and travel arrangements.- Conduct debriefing interviews with signed-off seafarers for performance evaluation and career development.
Implement crew career planning and promotion, in collaboration with the Career Development Manager.
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in Marine HR or a similar role.
Strong understanding of maritime regulations (STCW, IMO conventions) and crew management best practices.- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with crew, principals, and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and quality standards.- Experience working in a crewing agency or maritime company (Preferred).
Proficiency in maritime HR software and databases (Preferred).
