Job Purpose:
- The Resident Marine Biologist / /Dive Instructor (RMBDI) is a site-based position.
- The main goals of this position are threefold: 1). Interact with clients about marine life, 2). Lead divers on private marine biology dives, 3). Lead dives (non-marine biology related), 4). Teach courses. Furthermore, the RMBDI will coordinate the conservation diving program of Galaxea and implement this program throughout Galaxea.
- The RMBDI will assist the Dive Center Manager in the smooth and efficient running of all dive operations within the designated asset.
- He/She is responsible for the realization of the day-to-day activities all dive and underwater tourism related projects originating from the designated asset.
- The RMBDI will ensure all dive-related activities within the asset are conducted in a safe and professional manner.
- This includes: appearance of the dive center, leading dive excursions, teaching courses, all dive-related sales.
- RMBDI will act as salesmen assisting with the retail outlet.
Job Responsibilities:
General
- Reporting directly to the Dive Center Manager, assist in the smooth running of the dive center of the asset.
- Assist RSG Dive Operations in the development of other dive centers at other assets.
- Educate visiting divers about local marine life.
- Lead private marine biology dives.
- Teach all course to and above PADI standards.
- Lead visiting divers on dives from the asset.
- Work with Sustainability and RSZA departments to ensure alignment with sensitive and high-profile environmental issues in the development and operation of Marine Life and Underwater Tourism related assets.
- Work remotely and visit office as and when required.
Establishment of Dive Center: Pre-Opening
- Work alongside the Dive Center Manager to develop and deliver the dive centre and necessary components.
- Working alongside and supporting all RSG departments during Delivery stage to ensure targets are achieved, operational phasing is initiated when required and projects are delivered as designed.
- Become familiar with dive sites and marine life within reach of the asset.
Establishment of Dive Center: Post-Opening
- Manage standards of teaching and leading dives. Safety is paramount and always the first priority.
- All activities conducted from the Dive Center are conducted in a professional manner.
- Ensure all daily diving activities are conducted in a safe and professional manner.
- Ensure all courses are taught in a safe and professional manner, always ensuring that instructors err on the side of caution and that instructors follow all standards set forth by the training agency they represent.
- Ensure up to date and accurate records are kept pertaining to teaching activities.
- Assist with sales in the retail outlet.
- Conduct regular presentations about marine life for guests and colleagues
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, co-workers, and the public.

- Adopt and follow all relevant functional policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions to ensure the dive center operates in a controlled and consistent manner.

- Apply safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of department's systems, processes and practices considering international best practice, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience:
- Marine Biology/Conservation Degree
- PADI Instructor with proven track record in various geographic locations
- Active and Renewed PADI Instructor
- PADI Instructor rating for at least 5 specialties
- Logged at least 500 dives
- Certified at least 50 students across all core courses
- Diploma in Marine Biology or equivalent
- Dive business background-track record as evidence
- Hospitality track record
- Marine conservation track record
- Diving health & safety experience
- Diving track record in various geographic locations
- Equipment management
- Dive retail

- Fit to Dive Medical

- Full face mask experience
- Spoken language other than English (preferably Arabic)
- Social media posting skills
- Underwater photography/videography skills
- Marine life identification abilities (fish, invertebrates, reptiles and mammals)
