Role and responsibilities of a Legal / Compliance Officer
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the company adheres to all relevant local and international laws and regulations. This includes data protection laws, labor laws, environmental regulations, and industry-specific regulations.
- Litigation Management: Oversee and manage litigation and disputes involving the company. This includes coordinating with external legal counsel, preparing necessary documentation, and representing the company in court when required.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential legal risks and provide strategic advice on minimizing these risks.
- Corporate Governance: Ensure compliance with corporate governance regulations and maintain accurate records of the company's shareholdings.
- Trademark Registration: Oversee the registration of trademarks and ensure the protection of the company's intellectual property.
- IP Portfolio Management: Maintain and manage the company's intellectual property portfolio, ensuring timely renewals and filings.
- Policy Development: Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures.
- Legal Documentation: Maintain and manage legal documentation, ensuring that all records are up-to-date and easily accessible.
- Legal coordination: coordinate with lawyers on retainer regarding contract management (drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts) and seek legal advice from them to ensure all company activities complies with local and international laws.
- Regulatory Filings: Prepare and file necessary regulatory documents and reports with government agencies.
- Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a liaison between the company and regulatory bodies, stakeholders, and external legal counsel.
- Crisis Management: Develop and implement response strategies for legal crises or compliance breaches.
