Job Description

As a Lead Systems Engineer, you'll spearhead a team of night-shift engineers, ensuring top-tier performance in system monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident resolution. You'll foster growth within your team while driving operational excellence and system efficiency.

Your Daily Tasks
  • Manage the night-shift Systems Engineering team, ensuring adherence to performance standards and timely completion of tasks.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the night-shift team, aligning operations with organizational objectives and ensuring seamless handovers to the day-shift teams.
  • Lead the team in troubleshooting and resolving technical incidents, ensuring issues are addressed within SLA timeframes.
  • Monitor system performance, proactively identifying and mitigating risks or inefficiencies.
  • Enforce compliance with IT policies, procedures, and security standards.
  • Document workflows, incident resolutions, and system changes accurately for continuity and reference.
  • Provide guidance and support on complex technical issues, stepping in for hands-on involvement as necessary.
  • Monitor IT systems proactively, identifying and resolving risks before escalation.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of incidents, solutions, and configurations for operational continuity.
  • Identify and implement technical and operational improvements to enhance team efficiency and service delivery.
  • Coach, mentor, and train team members to improve their technical and professional skills.

Job Role Expectations

  • Lead technical incident resolution and ensure adherence to SLA timelines.
  • Proactively monitor system performance and address potential issues.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of processes, incidents, and resolutions.
  • Maintain a high-performing team through effective leadership, mentorship, and collaboration.
  • Identify skills gaps within the team and implement appropriate training or development plans.
  • Build a supportive environment that values professional growth and innovation.
  • Analyze operational and team performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement process enhancements to improve the efficiency and reliability of night-shift operations.
  • Regularly review and update workflows to align with best practices and business needs.
  • Facilitate seamless communication and handovers between night and day teams.
  • Act as an advocate for the night-shift team, providing insights to management for informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to support business-critical initiatives and projects.

Requirements

The Qualifications We Seek

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or systems administration, preferably with expertise in Linux administration.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a people leadership role.
  • Proficiency in hybrid IT environments, including on-premises and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Solid understanding of IT operations, incident management, and troubleshooting processes.
  • Exceptional communication skills for engaging with team members and stakeholders across time zones.
  • Experience with ITIL frameworks (preferred but not required).
  • Proven ability to implement operational improvements tailored to night-shift operations.
  • Willingness to work permanent night shifts and adapt to the demands of a 24/7 business environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire technical teams in a night-shift environment.
  • Strong skills in team management, conflict resolution, and performance evaluation.
  • Ability to motivate and engage teams during off-hours.
