Position Overview
As an Attorney - Land Development, you will provide essential legal support for land transactions and development projects in the energy sector. Your role will focus on legal aspects of land acquisition, title review, regulatory compliance, contract negotiation, and dispute resolution. You will collaborate closely with internal operations teams, project managers, and external stakeholders to align legal strategies with business goals and ensure seamless project execution.
This position requires both a deep understanding of real estate and energy-related legal frameworks and the ability to work with GIS tools for strategic planning and land management.
Responsibilities
- Title Review and Curative Work: Conduct comprehensive research on titles, resolve defects, and clear encumbrances to establish accurate ownership.
- Draft and Negotiate Contracts: Prepare, review, and negotiate leases, easements, purchase agreements, and other land-related legal documents.
- Compliance and Regulatory Oversight: Ensure transactions comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing land use, energy development, and environmental impact.
- Land Acquisition Support: Provide legal expertise on mineral rights, surface rights, easements, and real property transactions.
- Dispute Resolution: Address legal disputes regarding land use, ownership, and contract terms, coordinating with external counsel as necessary.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with project managers, GIS specialists, and stakeholders to align legal processes with business objectives.
- Organize Legal Documentation: Maintain and manage records of leases, titles, contracts, and compliance reports following industry standards.
- GIS Data Interpretation: Utilize GIS tools for legal data visualization and support land planning efforts.
- Stay Current on Legal Trends: Monitor changes in land-use laws, environmental regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and minimize risks.
Mandatory Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree with an active license to practice law in Texas (or ability to obtain).
- 3+ years of experience in land development, real estate, or energy law.
- Strong understanding of property law, title examination, and land-use regulations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience with or willingness to learn GIS tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the energy sector (e.g., oil, gas, or renewable energy).
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Familiarity with SaaS platforms or GIS-based applications for legal operations.
