The IT Technician with expertise in motherboard-level repair is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing computer hardware, specifically focusing on motherboard issues. This role requires a deep understanding of electronic components, circuit boards, and related systems. The technician will work closely with other IT staff to ensure that all hardware issues are resolved efficiently, minimizing downtime and ensuring the smooth operation of the company's IT infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Identify and diagnose hardware issues related to the motherboard, including but not limited to powerissues, component failures, and connectivity problems. Use diagnostic tools and software to pinpoint the exact nature of motherboard faults.
Repair and Replacement: Perform soldering, de-soldering, and reworking of electronic components on the motherboard. Replace defective components such as capacitors, resistors, ICs and transistors. Ensure proper reassembly and testing of repaired motherboards to confirm functionality.
Preventative Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance checks on computer hardware to prevent future issues. Update and maintain detailed records of repairs, replacements, and maintenance activities.
Collaboration and Support: Work closely with other IT team members to resolve hardware issues and support overall IT infrastructure. Provide technical support to end-users regarding hardware issues, ensuring clear communication and prompt resolution.
Inventory and Documentation: Manage inventory of spare parts and components for motherboard repair. Document all repairs, including the nature of the fault, steps taken to repair it and the outcome
Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing of repaired motherboards to ensure they meet quality standards. Stay updated with the latest advancements in motherboard technology and repair techniques.
Qualifications:
Education: Diploma or degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: Proven experience (2+ years) in motherboard-level repair or a similar role. Experience with diagnostic tools, soldering equipment, and other relevant repair tools.
Skills: Strong understanding of electronic circuits, components, and computer hardware. Proficient in soldering, reworking, and repairing electronic components. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Certifications (Optional but preferred): CompTIA A+, Certified Electronics Technician (CET), or equivalent certifications. Specialized training or certification in motherboard repair.
Work Environment: This position may require standing for long periods, working with small components, and using tools requiring fine motor skills. The work may involve exposure to electrical hazards, so adherence to safety protocols is essential.
