Habitat for Humanity currently works in 14 countries in Asia and the Pacific (AP) India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and Singapore. Over the past 40 years in AP, Habitat for Humanity has helped
- 9 million people in the region build or improve the place they call home. Habitat sees housing needs increasing due to emerging trends that will increase the housing deficit, with climate change, urbanization and migration the 3 main drivers. Habitat's new AP Strategic Framework aims to contribute to increased access to adequate housing for millions of people in the region by 2030.
Purpose
The Urban Land and Policy Advocacy (ULAP) Intern will support the team's efforts in meeting its two-fold objective of a) supporting Habitat entities across the region in implementing quality urban, land, and policy advocacy programs; and b) positioning Habitat entities in AP as key stakeholders that influence the housing ecosystem of individual countries as well as regionally to improve access to safe and affordable housing.
Primary Responsibilities
The intern will be engaged on a fully remote basis for 6 months from 15 September 2024 to 15 March 2025. Under the guidance and supervision of the AP Advocacy Manager, s/he will be tasked to undertake the following activities:
Conduct a desk and literature review of key issues and topics within the Urban, Land, and Policy that can be used to inform and/or promote the work of ULAP;
Produce ready-to-publish content for different communications channels that aligns with ULAP's objectives;
Attend and document regular meetings and/or key events including but not limited to ULAP Unit Meetings, AP Influencers Catch-up Calls, Home Equals Challenge Grant Meetings, Urban Roadmap Development Meetings, Advocacy Capacity Development, and Communications for Advocacy Alignment Meetings;
Organize/coordinate ULAP events especially for Urban Housing Practitioners Hub, Advocacy Capacity Development, and Urban Roadmap Development
Support knowledge management for ULAP including but not limited to case story pitching and writing, research, file storage and cataloguing;
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders especially from Global Program Communications and the Urban Housing Practitioners Hub;
Provide other assistance as needed in the execution of activities included in the ULAP workplan.
Minimum Qualifications
Recently graduated or currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in development studies or other related fields of social science
Interest and prior knowledge or any volunteer/work experience related to advocacy programs
Skills in basic graphic design and proficiency in any graphic design software
Proficiency in MS Office and MS Teams
Fluency in the English language is required
Can work remotely and will be available during office hours in Manila (Philippines) time
Internship Overview
Location: This position is based in Metro Manila and will be a remote position. However, the successful candidate should be willing to attend meetings in the Area Office as needed
Duration: 6 months (from September 2024 to February 2025); or upon completion of required internship hours
Daily Work Hours: 6 hours a day or maximum of 30 hours per week (flexible)
Daily Allowance: This is a paid internship per workday
