Job Overview: The Heavy Equipment and Truck Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of heavy-duty trucks
(6-wheeler to 10-wheeler vehicles), forklifts, and grab lifts. The mechanic will ensure all equipment is operating safely and efficiently to support operational needs.
Inspect and Diagnose: Perform regular inspections on heavy trucks, forklifts, and grab lifts to identify and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Maintenance and Repair: Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair vehicles and equipment to ensure they are in optimal working condition.
Engine Work:
Repair or replace defective engines, transmissions, brakes, and other components.Hydraulic Systems:
Maintain and repair hydraulic systems on forklifts and grab lifts.Electrical Systems: Diagnose and repair electrical issues including wiring, lighting, and control systems.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all repairs and maintenance work comply with safety regulations and standards.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs. Log all work performed in maintenance management systems.Parts Management:
Coordinates with Maintenance Material Control and Planner in maintaining parts, ensuring an adequate supply of spare parts is available.Emergency Repairs: Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergency repair needs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with operators and other maintenance team members to ensure all equipment issues are addressed timely.
Training:
Stay updated with industry best practices and participate in ongoing training and development.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in heavy equipment mechanics or a related field is preferred.Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in heavy equipment and truck maintenance and repair.Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g. NC1 or NC2) are a plus.
Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
- Strong understanding of heavy-duty truck systems and components.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Good physical stamina and manual dexterity.
Valid driver's license, preferably with a commercial driver's license (CDL).
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
Availability for on-call work and overtime as needed.
Work may be performed in a workshop or outdoor settings, depending on the location of the equipment.- Exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and potentially hazardous conditions.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
