Role: Electrical Switchboard Estimator
Compensation: Competitive Basic Salary

Work Schedule: 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Philippine Time
Work Setup: Hybrid Setup (San Fernando, Pampanga)
Summary:
The estimator is responsible for developing and identifying the scope of the work to be priced by studying single line diagrams, capturing all relevant specifications, developing the design as required, and accurately calculating the cost of the work. This role includes sending information to suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain fixed price quotations to develop the final quotation figure, generating quotations, issuing them to clients, and following up. Once a project has been secured, complete the handover to the production team and assist with the initial design as required. Other associated tasks will also include site visits for inspections and to meet with clients, attending tender meetings, coordinating with production staff, and assisting with the pricing of variations on existing contracts. Some general miscellaneous tasks may include assistance with the WHS and Quality systems of the business.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- New project estimation
a. Scoping
Evaluation of current building plans to establish and mark out the full extent of the
works
Identifying specific requirements of the Project through the Electrical Drawings and specifications (current ratings, IP ratings, kA ratings, switchgear brands, etc.)
Evaluating specific risks involved
Reviewing program requirements, assessing their potential impact on pricing and identifying potential cost savings if program will allow for alternative equivalent components for example
Review designs in advance of estimation and develop best practices for tender submission.
Review methodologies in advance of estimation and develop best practices for tender submission.
Prepare conceptual designs to support costs where required.
Communicate RFIs to the Client in a timely and professional manner
b. Costings
Acquiring pricing and quotations from suppliers and subcontractors; recording these for later reference by the Production team where possible
Negotiating better pricing when conducting quotation reviews to achieve cost savings and increase margins
Use of standard forms and cost spreadsheets to accurately calculate the final cost and sell prices
Organising and filing costs so they can be readily found once the job has been won in SharePoint file system
Accurate coding and preparation of cost information for uploading into ERP (Tidy) as required
Development of tender estimates are to be clear, concise and summarised for pre-submission review meetings
Securing quotes from suppliers for tender estimates,, particularly for critical cost items
c. Quotations
Preparation of quotations in Microsoft Excel and issuing as PDFs
Follow up of quotations by phone and email with client as per our standard quotation recording and follow up system
Use of CRM and other systems to manage the above as required
- Variation estimating
All steps are as per the above, the difference being that the project is already in hand, and it may be for works additional to the contracted scope or changes to the existing scope. This is often handled by the Production team directly but if it is extensive or beyond the expertise of the Production team, it may come back to the Estimator
Variation estimation may also require specific breakdowns of components as per our costing guide, however, this always requires close coordination with the Production team to ensure the breakdown is likely to be acceptable to the builder
- Production coordination
a. Handover
When the sale has been successfully secured, the estimator will often need to be involved in the handover meeting with the production team. This requires an accurate verbal review of the scope of the project, with particular attention paid to ensuring all details are accurately conveyed in relation to previously negotiated designs, finishes and other details
Initial Project meetings between Production team and client may require the Estimator to remain involved initially, depending on the complexity of the project
b. Ongoing
The Estimator may be on-call to the Production team going forward to answer queries in relation to any issues with scope and costings where clarification may be required as to how calculations had been made and what assumptions were included
- Miscellaneous
a. Communication and data entry
Maintain a high degree of fluency in the use of English, both written and verbal
Respond to emails within 24 hours if response is required, especially to clients
Maintain a high level of data entry and numerical accuracy
Continue to demonstrate a high level of spelling accuracy in all aspects of communication
b. Use of systems
Competent use of Outlook Calendar or similar system for the planning of daily tasks and appointments
Competent use of all IT system requirements, including Zoom, CRM and any other program or application
c. WHS
Occasionally, the Estimator may be required to prepare of SWMSs, risk assessments or assist with the completion of Safety Management Manuals
d. Quality
Occasionally, the Estimator may be required to assist with the preparation of Quality documentation for any particular project
e. Operation and Maintenance documentation
Occasionally, the Estimator may be required to assist with the preparation of Operation and Maintenance documentation as requested by Client. This includes installation certificates, which are required on most projects, through to full manuals as required on larger projects,, covering care of finishes, maintenance schedules, as-built drawings, etc
