Credit Risk Department Head

Job Description

Job purpose:

The position is responsible for overseeing and managing the credit risks associated with extending credit to individual and business clients. It ensures a balanced approach to credit decisions to avoid potential financial losses due to borrower defaults.

Duties & Responsibilities:

A. Credit Risk Management

1. Develops credit risk programs outlining the criteria for credit approval, terms, and credit limits.
2. Implements credit policies and procedures that align with the bank's risk thresholds and regulatory requirements.
3. Oversees the credit underwriting process, ensuring due diligence is conducted before approving credit applications.
4. Assesses the level of risk associated with extending credit to borrowers.
5. Monitors the credit portfolio to identify early signs of credit imbalance, analyzes existing loan performance, and mitigates risks.

B. Reporting and Compliance

1. Ensures bank compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and local regulatory guidelines related to credit risk management.
2. Provides insights into the overall credit risk profile and performance of the credit portfolio.
3. Collaborates with business units and the credit operations team to manage delinquency rates and minimize losses from payment defaults.
4. Reviews credit risk metrics reports and presents findings to Management and the Board of Directors.

C. Management and Leadership

1. Recommends departmental plans, programs, budget, and performance targets.
2. Directs and coordinates all departmental activities to maximize employee productivity.
3. Provides leadership in supervising all direct and indirect reports, supporting career advancement.
4. Supervises and evaluates the performance of all direct reports.
5. Approves and schedules vacation leaves for all direct reports.

D. Other Responsibilities

1. Keeps management informed of actions requiring legal consideration.
2. Actively participates in meetings, trainings, and professional development programs.
3. Makes recommendations on matters related to business operations and other relevant activities.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Education: Graduate of finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a related field a master's degree or certification in risk management or finance is preferred.
• Experience: At least five (5) years in credit risk management.
