The role is responsible for the overall operations and execution of the Commercial Strategy and Services team and the company's generation business to optimize the Wholesale-managed P&L through the pricing and structuring of contracts, and to mitigate commercial risk through the implementation of various instruments in coordination with the Commercial Finance Team. The position shall continually check the implementation of the Wholesale operational plan and exercise control of the team's resources to ensure success.
The role will also support the Wholesale team in the sourcing of replacement power, market planning, operational performance, and Competitive Selection Process (CSP) activities, among others.
This position will likewise be responsible for fostering relationships with various stakeholders including other generating companies, banks, and financial intermediaries.
Responsibilities:
- Strategize contract pricing by monitoring the competitive landscape and gathering information from the market and other internal units.
- Leads in understanding and analyzing competition's commercial strategies and ensuring competitive pricing databases are up to date.
- Commercial Risk Management
- Leads in the review and identification of risk in commercial contracts due to a range of factors including but not limited to commodity, foreign exchange risk, tariff structures, supply availability, etc.
- Ensures mitigating plans are in place including the execution to cover risk associated with each contract and portfolio as a whole.
- Manages the purchase of replacement power to provide power to customers during outages and/or minimize spot risk of the portfolio.
- Work closely with Commercial Finance on hedging transactions.
- Portfolio Optimization and Monitoring
- Determines the optimal level of contracting and market exposure to maximize portfolio value and minimize risk.
- Drives in commercial contracting assumptions to optimize gross margin required for planning and budgeting, rolling forecasts, and all other analyses.
- Leads in crafting and adherence to commercial policies and guidelines that align with the objectives of the Commercial Operations group
- Leads the rate-making process by the Wholesale Team's overall pricing strategy and market requirements.
- Manage the full pricing process to keep it timely to the needs of the market and ensure pricing build-up and formula design accurately reflect the cost and constraints of the AP Gen BU's
- Ensures the review (annual) of all PSAs relating to the implementation and profitability.
- Establishes and maintains harmonious professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders (generators, suppliers, ERC, DOE, IEMOP, PEMC, MERALCO, NGCP among others)
- Performance and People Management
- Oversees in outlining the team's key objectives and goals and clarifies how the organization will achieve them aligned with the company's planning and budgeting calendar.
- Monitors and evaluates individual and team performance based on set targets and KPIs.
- Develop action plans to address concerns and improve existing processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the unit.
- Implements regular feedback sessions with team members regarding their performance.
- Strategizes, reviews, and selects training programs/interventions for the team to enhance technical, financial, and personal development.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Management, Marketing, or Finance.
Preferably with MA units in Engineering, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration.- At least 8 years experience in finance, investment banking, and business development preferably in the power industry or a similar business-to-business environment.
At least 5 years of managerial experience and handling a team.
- Power/Energy experience is a plus
