The Role
As a Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of all engineering systems and infrastructure within the hotel. You will lead the engineering team members to ensure that all facilities are operating efficiently, safely, and at the highest standards. In this pivotal leadership role, you will be focused on maintaining the property's assets, enhancing sustainability efforts, improving operational efficiencies, and creating a safe environment for both guests and team members.
Key Areas of Responsibilities

- Team Leadership: Lead, manage, and mentor the engineering team members, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to operational standards.
- Maintenance Operations: Oversee all aspects of maintenance operations, including preventive maintenance, repairs, and improvements to facilities, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.
- Energy Efficiency & Sustainability: Develop and implement strategies to optimize energy use, reduce waste, and implement sustainable practices across the hotel, contributing to both cost savings and environmental stewardship.
- Budget & Cost Management: Manage the engineering department's budget, controlling costs and overseeing expenditures related to maintenance, repairs, and projects.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure all engineering operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Oversee safe working practices to guarantee the well-being of team members and guests.
- Collaboration with Other Departments: Work closely with other departments such as Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and Front Office to ensure seamless operations and a superior guest experience.
- Project Management: Oversee engineering-related projects, including system upgrades, refurbishments, and new installations. Ensure these projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Guest Experience Enhancement: Ensure that the hotel's physical infrastructure contributes to an exceptional guest experience by maintaining a comfortable and well-maintained environment.
- Training and Development: Provide ongoing training and development for engineering team members, ensuring skills are up to date and fostering career growth opportunities within the team.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare regular reports on maintenance activities, energy consumption, and departmental performance for senior management.
Qualifications and Standards
To excel in this role, candidates should meet the following qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field); certification in facilities management or similar qualifications is an asset.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 - 10 years of experience in engineering management within the hospitality sector, with a proven track record in managing engineering teams and projects.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Familiarity with engineering software and maintenance management systems is an advantage.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, inspire, and manage a team, while fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong troubleshooting abilities and experience resolving complex technical issues quickly and efficiently.
- Project Management: Experience in managing multiple projects at once, with a focus on meeting deadlines, controlling costs, and ensuring high-quality standards.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with guests, team members, and senior management.
- Health and Safety Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of health and safety standards, regulations, and best practices in facilities management.
