Job Title: Cashier
- Job Description: The Cashier is responsible for processing transactions accurately and efficiently while providing excellent customer service. They handle cash, credit cards, and other payment methods, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly. The Cashier also assists in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the checkout area and plays a key role in enhancing the overall customer experience.
- Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Transaction Processing:
- Greet customers as they approach the checkout counter.
Accurately scan, itemize, and total purchases using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Process cash, credit card, debit card, and other forms of payment.
Provide correct change, receipts, and any required documentation to customers.- Handle returns, exchanges, and refunds according to company policies.
Customer Service:- Address customer inquiries and resolve any issues or complaints promptly and courteously.
Offer assistance or additional services as needed, such as gift wrapping or information on promotions.- Maintain a friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor at all times.
Cash Management:- Count the cash register at the beginning and end of each shift, ensuring it balances correctly.
Safeguard cash and other forms of payment, following security protocols to prevent theft or fraud.- Prepare daily reports and deposit slips as required by management.
Sales Promotion:- Inform customers of current promotions, discounts, or loyalty programs.
Upsell additional products or services, enhancing the overall sales experience.- Assist in displaying promotional materials and ensuring they are up-to-date and visually appealing.
Checkout Area Maintenance:- Keep the checkout area clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary supplies, such as bags, receipt paper, and pens.
Ensure all equipment, such as cash registers and card machines, is functioning correctly and report any malfunctions to management.- Replenish stock of items displayed near the checkout counter, such as impulse buys.
Compliance and Security:- Follow all company policies, including those related to cash handling, customer service, and workplace safety.
Adhere to food safety and hygiene regulations when handling food items.- Report any suspicious activity, security breaches, or discrepancies to management immediately.
Collaboration:- Work closely with other staff members, including waiters, kitchen staff, and managers, to ensure smooth operations.
Assist in training new cashiers, if required, by demonstrating proper procedures and techniques.- Participate in team meetings to stay informed about menu changes, promotions, and other important updates.
Additional Responsibilities:- Assist with inventory management, including counting stock and replenishing shelves when needed.
Handle special requests from customers, such as splitting bills or processing gift cards.- Support other areas of the restaurant during peak hours or as directed by management.
Previous experience as a cashier or in a customer-facing role is preferred.- Basic math skills and the ability to handle transactions accurately.
Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems and basic computer skills.
- Strong customer service skills with a polite and friendly demeanor.
Good communication and problem-solving skills.- Ability to stand for long periods and handle physical tasks such as lifting items.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
