The Biomedical Engineer I is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all medical equipment in the Medical Mall. This position applies engineering principles and materials technology to healthcare. This can include researching on the better type, as well as in the managing of the use, of clinical equipment in Chong Hua Medical Mall. S/He ensures that all medical equipment are in efficient and reliable working condition at all times and creates reports that serve as the basis for recommendation and future action by the Administration.
- Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The tasks may change depending on the division/department's service or business direction.
A. Planning and Organizing
- Plans and organizes relevant activities and schedules to ensure efficient delivery of service in the department and ensures to meet the expectations of internal clients. Sample tasks may be, but not limited to:
- Maintains the effective and efficient execution of his/her tasks and responsibilities by ensuring consistent compliance with existing protocols, guidelines, processes, procedures, standards, etc. of the division, department, unit, and hospital.
- Inspects and tests biomedical equipment prior to use. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance when needed and with the supervision of either the Biomedical Technology Operations Manager, Biomedical Technologist Supervisor or Biomedical Technologist II.
- Performs technical assistance to doctors in different departments/units where biomedical service is needed, e.g., operating theatre, etc.
- Investigates reported failure of biomedical equipment.
- Evaluates the degree of damage to equipment and recommends solutions.
- Receives and informs appropriate department on medical device recall.
- Provides justification reports to the immediate superior of the management or the management for assets that are beyond economical repair (BER). Provides guidance to users on proper procedures to be followed when equipment is decommissioned.
- Does physical inventory and keeps a record of all registered equipment in the database or on hard files; e.g., testing schedules and procedures, equipment data file, service summary report, etc.
- Conducts end-user training on the capabilities, limitations and complications of the medical equipment, operating safety and emergency procedures, and reporting of equipment problems. Supervises end-user training and vendor's technical training.
- Transports and conducts functional testing of portable machines for bedside procedures, e.g., Ultrasound Machine, etc.
- Makes spare parts requisition to be used in corrective and preventive maintenance work orders. Recommends vendors and alternative parts to make cost effective parts purchase.
- Participates in the continuous quality improvement of service, safety procedures and activities.
B. Analysis and Recommendations
- Provides analyses on processes, policies and procedures based on research or gathered data.
- Participates in the creation of or recommends updates and changes in the policies and procedures to continuously improve the quality of service in the unit/area.
C. Collaboration and Teamwork
- Guides employee actions through one's consistent practice and implementation of department's policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
- May be tasked to lead cross-functional team to deliver projects or special tasks designed to improve specific areas of Medical Mall services such as process improvement, review of policies, etc.
- Communicates job expectations;
- May be tasked to plan, monitor, and appraise one's job contributions; or conduct performance appraisal of members of the cross-functional team or other members.
D. Continuous Quality Improvement
- Responsible for the review and streamlining of processes and policies to continuously improve the quality of service in the department.
- Leads or directs the team or creates functional team to identify performance gaps and formulate strategic interventions to continuously improve on identified areas for improvement, when required
- Oversees the development and placement of safety strategies and continuous quality improvement of service initiatives in the department.
E. Professional Development
- Involves oneself in the planning and execution of his/her professional development in collaboration with the immediate superior; monitors progress and completion of training required to establish his/her career or set for the next likely role.

- Qualifications
Graduate of any Engineering course preferably in Biomedical, Electronics, and Communication, Mechanical, Electrical, or related fields, with at least 2 to 3 years
related work experience as a Biomedical Engineer, Field Service Engineer, Technician Engineer or Site Engineer.- Graduates of Vocational or TESDA Biomedical Technician Courses can also be considered provided they have at least one (1) year of Biomedical Engineering experience.
With related work experience in the repair and maintenance of bio-medical equipment is an advantage.
- Can read and interpret technical diagrams of equipment
Healthcare industry experience is a plus- Demonstrated understanding of basic corporate office software, including Microsoft Office 365 applications
Effective communication skills, proficiency in the Visayan dialect and/or Tagalog is required; ability to communicate well in English is an advantage.
