The Assistant for Seed Production, provides assistance in the implementation of all seed production plans and activities of the designated production area in order to meet the target quality & quantity.
Functional Roles & Responsibility:
- Conduct grower recruitment and contracting to achieve yearly seed production target for the assigned area.
- Provide assistance to the farmers on-field management activities from land preparation; sowing; pollination; roughing; pest control; weeding; harvesting & other field operations.
- Interacting & maintaining positive working relationships with growers, cooperatives and QA field inspectors.
- Conduct timely field inspection at critical stages of the crop from vegetative, flowering, pollination, post pollination and harvesting stage.
- Recommends appropriate pesticide & agronomic practices to optimize yield.
- Coordinate seed procurement activities to meet seed receiving schedule as per communication from immediate reporting authority.
- Understand crop (Hybrid/ Varieties) characteristics; seed quality standards & seed delivery requirements to optimize timely seed availability.
- Implementation of quality seed production aspects, Phytosanitary measures in seed production fields, as per company policy.
- Support in generating information for documentation and monitoring capabilities to ensure standard optimal procedures are followed in programs related to 7 Essentials, ISO, Phytosanitary measures, Quality seed production.
- Timely distribution of available seed production material to seed growers as per yearly target.
- Support & assist in organizing Seed Growers training/ field days and demonstrations on seed production technologies of different crops.
- Conduct 100% crop inspection of all seed production fields.
- Coordinate post-harvest operations such as seed extraction, disinfection with individual growers.
Administrative Roles & Responsibility
- Support the seed production area manager in weekly yield estimate & Field observation on a regular basis.
- Maintain seed production target while maintaining high-quality parameters.
- Proactive professional working relationship with seed production growers.
- Remain updated with the latest developments related to seed production technology.
- Timely submission of expenses details on a regular basis.
- Implementation of ISO in the assigned Seed Production areas.
Qualifications
- B.S. Agriculture major in Horticulture, crop science or any related courses
- Experienced with field activities and operational matters related to Seed production (at least 1 year of work experience in the seed industry)
- Experience in seed production techniques and other related activities will be an advantage.
- Ability to communicate information to farmers
- Ability to adapt to changing environment/ situation needs.
- Proficiency in computer skills on standard office software such as Google and Microsoft.
