Position: Actuarial/ Underwriting Director

Position Overview:
The Actuarial/Underwriting Director will assume responsibility for overseeing the performance and operations of the Underwriting department, with a focus on monitoring individual and departmental performance metrics, managing reinsurance activities, and ensuring adherence to company policies and guidelines. This role involves strategic decision-making to optimize both top-line and bottom-line results through effective risk assessment and management.
Key Responsibilities:
Performance Monitoring and Assessment:
- Regularly evaluate the performance and results of individual lines within the Underwriting department, including reinsurance activities.
- Assess the performance of each Line Head and provide guidance for improvement as necessary.
- Ensure all acceptances align with Company policies and guidelines.
- Strategic Recommendations:
- Provide recommendations to enhance top-line and bottom-line results based on performance evaluations.
- Implement approved guidelines and policies to optimize departmental operations.
Risk Acceptance and Management:
- Accept risks within the established underwriting guidelines set by the Company.
- Recommend appropriate reinsurance programs for all lines in coordination with the Reinsurance Head.
Guideline Adherence:
- Ensure Line Heads adhere to established Company guidelines and policies.
- Review large losses and implement necessary actions to improve risk acceptance quality.
Reinsurance Management:
- Manage and service relationships with International Brokers.
- Coordinate reinsurance activities to optimize risk management strategies.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Professional certification such as Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Extensive experience in underwriting, with a proven track record of leadership and strategic decision-making.
- In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles, reinsurance strategies, and industry regulations.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed recommendations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools for data analysis and risk assessment.
