We are seeking an experienced accountant with a solid understanding of the end-to-end accounting cycle and a strong background in cash application. This financial accounting professional will support monthly financial reporting and analysis, prepare and reconcile monthly journal entries, and perform in-depth variance analysis. This role is responsible for analyzing, identifying, and resolving reconciling items on assigned balance sheet accounts and income statement line items, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review monthly journal entries for assigned income statement areas.
- Analyze monthly variances, explaining changes in activity month-over-month for both income statement and balance sheet accounts.
- Support the preparation and presentation of accurate, timely financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Prepare operating expense analysis, with a focus on SG&A expenses, by analyzing KPIs against forecasts and prior months.
- Oversee the full cash application process, ensuring all transactions are accurately and promptly recorded and reconciled.
- Identify discrepancies and variances in cash applications, providing detailed analysis and resolution strategies.
- Manage ROU assets, preparing monthly entries and adding new lease agreements.
- Reconcile back to the lease accounting module and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
- Maintain and reconcile prepaid asset accounts monthly, including recording amortization and reconciling to balance sheet control accounts.
- Conduct detailed account analysis for key balance sheet accounts (e.g., Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Accrued Liabilities).
- Prepare audit lead sheets and perform account reconciliations, addressing reconciling items promptly.
- Assist in reconciling financial subsystems to the general ledger, working closely with other teams to ensure accuracy.
- Serve as a point of contact for complex accounting queries related to cash application and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA or CMA certification is an advantage
- Extensive experience in end-to-end accounting, cash application, and monthly close processes
- Background in financial reporting and analysis, ideally in logistics or supply chain industries
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and complex formulas
- Strong knowledge of financial management software (e.g., Great Plains) and other financial reporting tools
- Excellent analytical skills with a detail-oriented approach to financial reporting
- Ability to communicate effectively and present financial information to stakeholders with varying financial expertise
- Highly organized with strong time management skills
