An Accountant will have substantial accounting and financial reporting knowledge. They should have an advanced understanding of accounting principles and regulatory standards. They provide support in the analysis of financial records and take part in helping management create decisions for the team.
Along with technical skill, Senior Accountants must demonstrate leadership capability to be able to act as a Team Lead or Manager to more junior employees. This is demonstrated by enabling other members of the team through mentoring, guidance and training, as well as managing complex project based work. They should also be spending a portion of their time on tasks that are self-generated based on their own experience and knowledge
Duties and responsibilities
Responsible for reconciling general ledger accounts
Collaborate with key business units to ensure accurate financial and operational reporting and decision support
Responsible for compliance in regulatory standards and agreements
Recommend improvements to optimize existing accounting systems and processes
Responsible for providing reports for audits
Support in managing and providing financial analysis
Provide any ad-hoc management reports as requested
Process complex or non-standard transactions (e.g. AP, AR, expense invoices, etc.), including verifying, computing, and recording
Analysis of transactions to understand problem areas and priorities
Overall reconciliation of transactions and books, collaborating and coordinating with different teams to resolve discrepanciesQualifications:
Open to fresh graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.
Experience is encouraged but not required, with a minimum of 2 years preferred.
Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), but not mandatory.
Experience in bookkeeping is an asset, though not required.
Audit experience is an advantage.
Strong knowledge of general accounting principles, regulatory standards, and compliance requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in bookkeeping software (Xero and/or QuickBooks experience is a plus).
Exceptional attention to detail.
Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, and general computer skills (e.g., email).
Ability to learn quickly and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
Familiarity with complex accounting issues.
Knowledge of IFRS is an asset.
